Whetstone Tips Chapter 7 "Inspection and Test Run"

  • Visual inspection
  • Hitting sound inspection
  • Conformity inspection
  • Trial operation

Visual inspection

Before installing the grinding wheel, visually inspect the following items.

・ Presence of cracks, chips, and scratches
・ With or without label
・ Is there any foreign matter on the flange contact surface?
・ Presence or absence of moisture (resinoid grinding wheel deteriorates early due to humidity)
・ Presence or absence of strain

Hitting sound inspection

The tool is a wooden hammer, and it is done around the entire circumference of the grinding wheel.
It is not effective for thin objects such as cutting wheels and grinding wheels smaller than 100 mm.

Conformity inspection

Use a grinding wheel that does not exceed the maximum peripheral speed of the grinding wheel for the rotation speed (rpm) of the tool to be attached.

Trial operation

Before starting work, perform a test run inspection as follows.

・ Enforce complete wearing of designated protective equipment.
・ Before turning on the switch, pay attention to the working position and avoid the direction of scattering if the grinding wheel is destroyed.
・ Idle for 3 minutes or moreand during this time be careful of vibration and abnormal noise.
・ If there is no abnormality after slipping, try cutting (shaving).

*Even if the grinding wheel has been installed and adjusted, before each day's work1 minute of trial operation is necessary.
